ISLAMABAD:In a first of its kind case, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on February 23 to explain his position over a complaint that his party’s funds had been misused.
The ECP issued notices to Imran Khan and PTI secretary general Jahangir Tareen on a petition filed by Akbar S Babar, who has alleged that the PTI leadership has misused the party funds. Imran and Tareen can appear before the commission in person or send their counsels to defend them.
Babar, a founding member of the PTI who later quit the party, had filed the petition last year. At the time, the PTI had denied the allegations.
