Sony is reportedly planning to release the Xperia Z5 in September, putting it in the lineup for IFA 2015 and in the company of heavyweights like theGalaxy Note 5, the Moto X (3rd generation) and LG's new premium phablet. The good news is, if the latest rumors can be believed, it may just be up to the challenge. Here's what we know about the Xperia Z5 right now.
Sony Xperia Z5 release date
Remember a few months back when all that Sony Pictures email hacking was going on? Those emails mentioned a ''May device'' and a ''November device''. The Xperia Z3+ is obviously the first, and it looks increasingly as though the Xperia Z5 will be second.
Phone Arena is currently running with a story sourced from a site called Technodify that claims the Xperia Z5 Ultra, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 launch are all slated for early September at IFA (September 4-9, 2015). The eventual Xperia Z5 release date could very well then be November. We can't confirm the accuracy of this information but it is certainly feasible.
Sony Xperia Z5 price
The Xperia Z5 price is anybody's guess, but the seriously beefed up specs sheet – if it can be believed – posits this as the true successor to the Xperia Z3, which was a bit of a weak successor to the Xperia Z2. A radical shift is well overdue in the Xperia lineup, so we hope the Z5 the Xperia we've been waiting for.
Sony Xperia Z5 specs
This is where things get interesting. The Xperia Z5 specs Technodify list jive well with previously rumored specs, but that's not to say they're confirmed. If true though, the Xperia Z5 features will include the exciting new Qualcomm Sense ID ultrasonic finger scanner.
Other Xperia Z5 specs include the Snapdragon 820, 4 GB of RAM, a new 21 MP Sony camera (Exmor RS IMX230) and 4,500 mAh battery. While this sounds like a dream specs sheet for the latter part of 2015, we'd be very surprised to see a 4,500 mAh battery in the Z5. Let's cross our fingers in any case.
According to the report, the Xperia Z5 design will be based on the same OmniBalance principles as the previous devices in the series. How the Sense ID sensor will be incorporated is uncertain, but considering it works through surfaces like glass, it could be positioned anywhere. Previous rumors also pointed to the inclusion of USB Type-C when the image above was leaked on Weibo.
