The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is a rumored upcoming flagship phablet, expected to feature a similar dual-edge display as on the Galaxy S6 Edge, but reportedly with a 5.67-inch screen. Find out all we know so far about the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus price, release date, specs and rumors below.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus price and release date
Though Samsung usually unleashes its phablets at its "Samsung Unpacked" events at IFA (as it did last year with theGalaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge); this year things could be different.
Sam Mobile reports that the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy Note 5 will be announced on August 12, and will go on sale August 21. Recent speculation has suggested that Samsung is making attempts to get a head-start on the iPhone 6s, expected to launch in September.
In addition, Samsung may be trying to rush the production to recover from low sales of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. This latest news about the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus release date certainly seems to corroborate this.
The Galaxy S6 Edge is one of the most expensive smartphones in the world, so if this houses something similar, albeit in a larger frame, expect it to be in the region of 1000 USD off-contract. Other rumors have suggested that the device will have lower specs than the Galaxy S6 Edge, and will be more reasonably priced. As soon as we hear any rumblings about the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus price we'll be sure to let you know.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus design
A leaked design render of the rumored Samsung Galaxy S6 Plus has been picked up by GSMArena, and appears to reveal some key information about the upcoming phablet.
The device dimensions reportedly come in at 153.3mm x 76.1mm x 7.9mm, with the screen size at 5.7-inches. Interestingly, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus seems to lack a USB Type-C port, which is expected to soon become the Android standard, and also Samsung's S Pen stylus.
So far, theses rumors suggest that the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is going to be just that: a bigger Galaxy S6 Edge. Though we don't have any confirmed specs, the omission of Samsung's stylus indicates more of an iterative upgrade for the S6 Edge rather than a curved screen Note 5 variant.
Also on the design front, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is expected to come in four colors: gold, silver, white and black.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus specs
Sam Mobile appears to have dug up some specific information on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, including some specs details.
The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will reportedly arrive with a 5.67-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). Furthermore, it could house a Snapdragon 808 processor, 16 MP main camera (including OIS and 4K video recording) as well as a 5 MP front camera.
Sam Mobile also suggests that the device would run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and use a 3,000 mAh battery. The S6 Edge Plus may have a glass back, and lack support for MicroSD cards or a removable battery, which will come as a disappointment to many people.
These details are very specific, and we don't expect them to be far wrong. Most rumors suggest two phablets will arrive from Samsung - one with a curved display - and Samsung is unlikely to revert to expandable storage after it chose not to include it on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge earlier this year.
We also believe that the device will launch in mid-August. Given that this is expected to occur before the full release of Android M, it's likely that the S6 Edge Plus will be running Android 5.1.1.
We must stress that our information is based on rumors from an anonymous sources, and we don’t know if this device exists or is in the making.
That being said, we are expecting Samsung to drop a dual-sided phablet this year, after experimenting with the Galaxy Note Edge last year and finding “success” with the Galaxy S6 Edge this year. If not the handset above, we'll probably see something similar.
