The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is a rumored upcoming flagship phablet, first leaked in a video uploaded by YouTube personality Marques Brownlee. The device in question features a similar dual-edge display to the Galaxy S6 Edge, but reportedly with a 5.67-inch screen. Find out all we know so far about the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus price, release date, specs and rumors below.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus specs
Sam Mobile appears to have dug up some specific information on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, including some specs details.
The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will reportedly arrive with a 5.67-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). Furthermore, it could house a Snapdragon 808 processor, 16 MP main camera (including OIS and 4K video recording) as well as a 5 MP front camera.
Sam Mobile also suggests that the device would run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and use a 3,000 mAh battery. The S6 Edge Plus may have a glass back, and lack support for MicroSD cards or a removable battery, which will come as a disappointment to many people.
These details are very specific, and we don't expect them to be far wrong. Most rumors suggest two phablets will arrive from Samsung - one with a curved display - and Samsung is unlikely to revert to expandable storage after it chose not to include it on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge earlier this year.
We also believe that the device will launch at IFA 2015. Given that this is expected to occur before the full release of Android M, it's likely that the S6 Edge Plus will be running Android 5.1.1.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus design
In his video, Brownlee says the device will be like "a super-size version of the original Galaxy S6," but it's probably more accurate to say it's a larger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge. It looks like it houses the same curved display, fingerprint scanner and speaker/sensor setup but on a larger frame and is expected to come in four colors: gold, silver, white and black.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus price and release date
The Galaxy S6 Edge is one of the most expensive smartphones in the world, so if this houses something similar, albeit in a larger frame, expect it to be in the region of 1000 USD off-contract. Other rumors have suggested that the device will have lower specs than the Galaxy S6 Edge, and will be more reasonably priced.
As for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus release date, Samsung usually unleashes its phablets at its "Samsung Unpacked" events at IFA (as it did last year with the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge); it's likely that IFA 2015 will be the birthplace of the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus this year.
We must stress that our information is based on rumors from an anonymous sources, and we don’t know if this device exists or is in the making.
That being said, we are expecting Samsung to drop a dual-sided phablet this year, after experimenting with the Galaxy Note Edge last year and finding “success” with the Galaxy S6 Edge this year. If not the handset above, we'll probably see something similar.
