Google has unveiled a new payment system for smartphones using Android operating system in a bid to compete with Apple which launched Apple Pay last year. Mobile payment system is the new and fast growing segment and Google can’t afford to stay behind in this sector. Smartphone users will be able to pay at various locations using their smartphones.
As the usage of smartphones has increased over the past few years, the way we use our handheld devices has changed as well. Google Pay would work at more than 700,000 retail counters across the United States and the company is engaging more retailers to improve its reach.
"Users can simply and safely use their Android phone to pay in stores where you see an Android Pay logo. Credit card data will be safe and users can make payments at counters that accept contactless payments.
Google’s payment system will allow users to store their credit card, loyalty card and other information in a secure environment on their smartphone.
Google has not shared the release date for Android Pay. However, the company mentioned that the service will be soon available across the United States. Google is also expected to launch the next major version of Android operating system in coming weeks.
